This passage means to me to put to death the misdeeds of the body. To serve God in truth, love, and in integrity. Our light is supposed to shine brighter and brighter until the day. Pray for me brothers that I may stand on God's convictions as well as my own and push through Amen!

For me, this passage is another confirmation that I should spend more time in the book of Matthew. It’s been a reoccurring chapter in my life recently and it’s so powerful!

Brian Hollingsworth and Ashley Jarvis, your comments help me in my own recovery. Thank you. I also pray that Jesus gives me his heart for others, and gets into my head before I do! Amen.

Great comments as usual. As Matthew said, his pa-in-law didn't want help. Remember that it's sometimes important to see past that and maybe find a way to allow them to let you help them. Losing independence or having difficulty us hard to accept for many. God bless y'all. Happy St Patrick's day

Bless you Matthew. I had a similar situation my mother-in-law lived with us over 17 years and passed away a year ago January 1, 2021

Thanks gentlemen for sharing your amazing stories about being selfless and giving a helping hand. Most of the stories you have share was not about monetary but more about helping with your heart, mind and soul. And that’s what is should be about. Let’s all give a helping hand just as Jesus would do by following your heart and allowing the love of Jesus to be a part of it. Thank you Jesus for your all your blessings for me and the brothers. Continue to guide us to serve others through you. Amen 🙏

I recently had a chance to care for my father in law. He had become very weak and although we did not know had cancer in his lung and had come to stay with us. At one point he was so weak that he had fallen down trying to get to the bathroom. He had always been a very strong and independent man so he didn’t want help but that night I decided I would sit in his room and help him if he needed. He kept telling me that I didn’t need to stay up but we had some of the best talks we ever that night since he was up most of the night too. A few days later he went to the hospital where he gave his life to Christ when a friend of ours went to pray with him. My wife would go stay with him during the day and I would call when I could as he was only allowed two visitors and as we were talking one day he told my wife I was like Jesus to him. He passed away about a week later but taking care of him was the biggest blessing I ever received especially knowing that he is now with Christ

When we allow our hearts to be captured by Jesus and then are filled with His love, we start looking at the world around us through His lenses. What happens is the sights before us that used to be repulsive, not interesting, something we would never choose or participate in, become opportunities to let the light of Jesus shine brightly. We see opportunities to be Jesus to others and to make a difference in their lives. A song written by the late Roger Bennett of the Cathedral Quartet focused on the question, “When the world looks at me, do they see Jesus?” That question has framed my thoughts and decisions more than any other. We are all representatives of our Lord and Savior. How do we present Him to our world?

Remember the Moravians. Their extra mile was a 24 hour 7 day a week prayer meeting that lasted over 100 years. That prayer meeting lead to them sending out more missionaries than any other people group. They lead John and Charles Wesley to Jesus. And they started the Methodist and Wesleyian churches. They wrote most of the hymns we sing. As you travel around this country and see things named Moravian, and see those small old white buildings that are old Methodist churches in every town, or if you live in Bethlehem pa. (Yes they founded that town) remember those who went the extra mile in prayer. May we all be Moravians.

A simple little concept I try and live by. All the crazy mess of this world and there is a way out. Love god and love your neighbor. If your rich, poor. Easy enough for me and I’m a c man

For me, getting sober was where my relationship with God was started. I called out through my program for help, and God was there. I realized God was always there, had I just surrendered sooner. Day by day, surrendering each morning, praying, doing my new ritual of readings (like this and others), praying, and restarting my day as many times as needed, my relationship grew with God, as my other relationships around me slowly grew back. Eventually, those relationships grew stronger than ever before, as my relationship with God grew more and more dependent on His will, rather than mine… I reached a point where my relationship with God and my understanding of Him seemed to Plateau… I was sober, very grateful, happy, but I knew there was more. That is when another man in my program approached me to sponsor him, I was being called to serve another man in his own journey of turning it all around. Through serving him through God, I was introduced to Gods greatest gift of Joy I’d ever experienced, selfless service to another human. Then another sponsee approached me… More Joy. I pray you’re all open to Gods call for you to serve another, Amen

At one point in my life I was out hustling any job I could to earn some spending money. As the youngest of 6 kids and my older siblings ranging from 5 - 9 1/2 years older than me very little money came my way otherwise.
One of my hustles was mowing lawns and doing any type of yard work somebody needed done. After I had just finished mowing my third yard of the day, which combined had covereda little over 3 acres II was riding back home I noticed an older gentleman struggling to mow his yard so I pulled inand ask if he needed some help. At first he refused then his wife piped in that they could not afford to pay me for the work.I said that was fine becauae their yard wasn't all that big and I would do it for free. i quickly got the yard mowed and trimmed then went around and help his wife clean the weeds out of flower beds. They thanked me and I hoped on my bicycle and off I went. They became a regular weeking stop for me. it felt so good to be able to help this older couple have a little easier life, of course the cookies or brownies that she baked and shared with me as we talked on their porch washed down with lemonade after I finished was a pleasure as well. I continued that weekly visit until their daighter found that had passed away in each others arms as they slept. Both were in their late 80s and had been married over 60 years.

Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ. ~ Galatians 6:2
Jesus taught us to serve others. He addresses this in his Sermon on the Mount in Matthew saying, "go the extra mile".
He says we aren't supposed to do just enough to get by... but dig in and double down on helping one another.
If you are waiting to get your own life straight before helping someone else, then you are missing the blessing that will help your troubles the most - which is serving others.
GO DEEPER: Proverbs 31: 8-9
NEXT STEP: Start by praying for the courage to take action. And get your brothers covered in prayer.
