30/365: Get Past That Unforgiven Feeling

He does not treat us as our sins deserve or repay us according to our iniquities. For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is his love for those who fear him; as far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from us. ~ Psalm 103: 10-12

After asking God to forgive our mistakes, It's tempting to grab the sin and drag it back into our life. We can carelessly skip one critical step... we must forgive ourselves.

Brother, if God has cast our sin as far as the east is from the west... then so should we. Stop dwelling on the mistakes and start living like a man who has been set free!

In order to move on... you MUST leave those things at God's footstool and you must forgive yourself. Christ did not die in vain, but to give you freedom. Accept it.

This is a good one. I’m my own worst enemy with this. I hold myself to a standard I shouldn’t usually perfection. I need to be forgiving.

I went through one period of time in particular where shame kept me from believing that God had truly forgiven me. Satan had my ear and was continually reminding me of my failure (regarding an ongoing lust issue that I thought I had gotten the victory over). I felt unforgivable. As I pled with God for forgiveness, His Spirit directed me to 1 John 1:9. As I read through that verse (which I had read and referenced many times before), suddenly it occurred to me that God HAD fully forgiven me as promised. I just didn’t FEEL forgiven. I came to realize that, what was important was to trust God, to take Him at His word. Further, God helped me to understand that, if I would fully trust Him, my feelings would begin to align with what I know to be true. As @Rene reminded us, the devil is a liar. He knows how to manipulate emotions. But we have a great and mighty and loving Father who wants to (and will) forgive us so we can continue our journeys together. Praise God for His faithfulness and forgiveness! Let us trust Him and lean on Him especially when our emotions tell us differently. His assurances, when trusted, will realign how we feel! To forgive is the most wonderful spiritual fruit that I can consume. It costs nothing but a leaching of my heart. I ask God for help, and He provides.

This is something I need to remember and practice more consistently. Sometimes I don't forgive myself as I should. But need to recognize his forgiveness has set me free.

this verse really hits deep inside me.. for years, I have struggled on lust. it got so bad that my relationship with my wife was not that great intimacy cause I always thought of someone else when I was intimate with her...I have asked God to forgive me and clean my thoughts and I know he did.. but many times, I wonder if God really has forgiving me.. and I keep going back and forth. But the devil is a liar, and he always will bring guilt back at us... stay strong and faithful, that's my aim... God bless you, brothers.

I know that only Jesus can get me past myself. That's why I look to Him everyday to keep myself focused on Him and hopefully, not me. Thank you, Lord Jesus!

I am my own worst enemy. In spite of God's forgiveness, I continue to carry the torment of my sins - some from 40 to 50 years ago. I pray that I'll be able to cast them aside someday and find peace.

I am so happy God forgives us. Lord thank you and thank you some more. Recovery taught me just what it meant to be human and all about all of us silly mortals bumping into each other like pin balls and not knowing any better. I look back at my life and I could have regrets but really did I truly know a better way before now. The answer is no. On top of that without all the hurt and the suffering to bust my pride and ego I would never in my life believed surrendering to anything would result in something good let alone the greatest good I've ever felt and the greatest good ever to be known. I am happy today thanks to mistakes that brought me to my knees and brought me to God. I dedicate my life to you again today God thank you. I love you and amen 🙏

Man am I grateful for His grace and forgiveness over my life. I’m undeserving of the things he’s blessed me of and it’s only by his grace that I’m still alive on this earth and that I even still have some of the relationships in my life that I could’ve ruined. That love and grace are fuel for need to do my best in seeing him to be better. It’s enough to being a grown man to tears. Thank you father for your grace and forgiveness over my life.

Forgiveness is the chief cornerstone upon which our relationship with God is built. We have faith when we come to Him to accept Him into out life that He will forgive us. He not only forgives us but scriptures tell us that He cast our sins as far as the East is from the West. We then need to exercise our faith by forgiving those that have wronged us as we are told to do in Matthew 6:14-15. Jesus very clearly tells us that if we can’t forgive them we won’t be given. I feel that very much includes forgiving ourselves for what we have done in the past. We need to forgive ourselves for every sin, every grudge we have carried and everything that Satan can use against to regain a foothold on our life again. I personally have found that it also helped me to go to as many of those as I can to ask them to forgive me for any hurt I caused them in the past. If they forgive you then great then that is on them . I have slap found that going to those that have hurt me it helped me to go to them and tell them that I forgave them and for those that I can’t do it directly then I tell them aloud in my quite place with God that I forgive them. Forgiveness means freedom and truly allows us to get closer to God. I know personally that once I fully forgave did I ever feel the true freedom that comes from God because it was the first time I ever felt truly forgiven.

When I’m tormented by the memories of my past failures, I’ve learned to thank Him for forgiveness rather than ask to be forgiven again.

I have a bad habit of at times digging up those dead things and trying to carry them around. I remember the shame or guilt and feel horrible. I need to let the dead things stay dead. No matter the thoughts I have. My wife at times says I need to remember the specifics of the things I’ve done that hurt her so I won’t repeat them. I disagree with that and refuse to do so. I don’t need to remember the specifics to know that I have offended God and her in order to not repeat them. God doesn’t remember them. The great quote from Corrie Ten Boom is something like “God has thrown all my sins into the sea of forgetfulness and has posted a no fishing sign”. I think all believers can rest assured in that. God has forgiven and forgotten. Praise God for His mercy and grace!!!
