23/365: The Doorway To Happiness

"For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many.” ~ Mark 10:45

Contentment and happiness comes through serving others out of the compulsion of our heart. Jesus has set the course for us to live our lives abundantly - through serving.

Imagine the Christian life as a series of doorways - each of them leading to a new opportunity of service.

Each day brings an opportunity to serve others. A kind word, a helping hand, a warm meal. Use your imagination. Serve not because you have to, but because you want to.

NEXT STEP: Who nearest to you, right now, needs to hear Christ's love through your voice? Take action and show them the doorway.

It is this very act that my father preached and was a great example for me and my siblings as we were growing up. I just hope I am that example for my kids. As a child, I would witness my father going out of his way to help people. And now, as a father myself, I preach to my kids that same belief. I would ask my kids, "Why did God put you on earth?" and my kids will "to help people."

Lord help us to be watchful for your will today, in the needs of others. Help us to focus through the fog of self will, and key in on what it is You would have us do, or not do for our fellows… say, or not say, to them. Help us to remember, you are working miracles outside of our understanding, and that a simple smile may be the key to a glorious butterfly effect in the awakening of another brother or sister in You. Help us to recognize that the actions and words of others reflect how they feel about themselves inside, and that it is not about us, but it is instead an opportunity for us to hear or see that cry for help, and your will is for us to respond with grace, kindness, understanding, and empathy. Help us to remember it was not that long ago that, we too, were lost vessels floating about, crashing into others, hurting each other… God, help me to tie my ship to theirs, and show them the way home. Amen 🙏🏻

I ask that I remember I am serving you God even in my highly solo career. That I remember that the work I do gives many many people a chance to connect over the internet and to find pathways to you God. much the same way I found my way to you I may not have without the technology to immediately communicate over the internet. Thank you God for putting me in a role to serve people and quietly in the background keep the lights of communication on. I love you God amen 🙏
