16/365: Renew Your Confidence

The Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline. ~ 2 Timothy 1:7

Fear can cause hesitation and keep you from reaching your full potential in Christ. The world will use your fear to mock you and "sell you" as a timid man. Don't listen to them. They are wrong.

God gives us a pathway to His power and a master key to unlock our courage. That key is self-discipline. The greater our self-discipline, the more certain we become about who we are as men.

Confidence is rooted in self-discipline. Self-Discipline is rooted in God's truth. Your renewed strength can start right now.

Barry I'm right there with you brother. I feel the same way. It can be scary when God is calling us into new things that we aren't familiar with. I said a prayer for the guys under this comment section. It's nice to know you aren't the only one sometimes who struggles with certain things. God bless yall!

Robert every word your wrote moved my spirit and I sincerely prayed for you. I feel like this is an answer to my prayer. I did not know the effects sexual sin, masterbation, and porn had on me. Rewiring of the brain is a perfect word for it. God just revealed why it's hard for me to love, accept love, or be affectionate. My loving wife cried her eyes out last night because she feels unloved by me. I do love her but I am unaffectionate and I can't explain why and then spirit of fear came upon me, what if I'm just not able to love? what if those years and layers of sexual sin hasn't been dealt with, what's wrong with me? This concept my wife doesn't understand because she's the biggest heart I've ever known. This morning I cried to God why? I see it will take discipline to unlock the courage and confidence I need to be the man God needs me to be for her. Brothers pray for me please

God bless you Robert in your quest to stand up for God and spread the Word to others. I'm with you. It's not easy. I'm slowly coming out of my own shell when it comes to that, even if only to offer a prayer of thanksgiving before a meal with friends who are not inclined to do that. It can be awkward, but it matters. I need to do more, however. God has given me so much. Working on it... Keep the faith...

The only way I could become self disciplined was with God’s help. Left to my own accord I ended up on drugs and blaming everyone else for what was happening instead of taking responsibility for myself. God has helped me to see and overcome this.

I would like to thank God for this app and the men who contribute to the success of the app by sharing their perspectives on the daily kick start. I am man that lacks self discipline in my finances and fitness. My pray is that God would give me the grace to start the path to self discipline in these areas.

God is good. I’ve never been real good at self discipline. I used to call it the “D” word. It took years, but God delivered me from masturbation over 30 years ago. In college I had a fairly brief (about a year give or take) yet intense run with porn. That was the early to mid 1980s. I think I used to have what I called “flashbacks”. An image from then would try to pop into my head. That brief porn stint has definitely rewired my brain. Praise God He delivered me from the masturbation and porn. Marriage is in shambles partly bc of how I let my brain be rewired and trained and the poor choices I’ve made over the years. So, I’ve struggled with fear for all my Christian life. Now, I see (I think) a way out of the fear. I want to be used by God - fear or no fear. I think evangelism might be my biggest fear. I’ve never been an outgoing person. Please pray I surrender completely to God for the rest of my days.

Another reading this morning said “Watch out for the Esau Syndrome…” Hebrews 12:15-16. Esau traded his entire birthright for a single meal. When I slip and make choices for instant gratification rather than hold myself to God’s standard for me, this is what I’m doing. I can’t hope for spiritual perfection, but I can aim for it. Hoping to be a little better today than I was yesterday. The only way I can improve, is by recognizing when I fall short, and repent. Seek to improve my self-discipline daily. I do recognize today, that much of my courage and resolve must come from my Faith in God and how He removed my cravings for alcohol. I certainly did everything I could imagine, until surrendering to Him. That new self discipline has spilled over courage to try stopping other things, and begin new things.

I want to have the strength and courage of Daniel, the three men in the fiery furnace, the thief on the cross. Yes, I am timid. I feel like if I live more for God, things change and it scares me. I am trying each day to let God win and the world. I look at others who have this down and think that they are good actors, when I am the one acting.

As I wake up this morning I look out to a paint brushed sky displaying God’s glory and beauty. It also reminds me of how little I am without God in my life. Without God in my life I would have never overcome my gambling addiction much less my porn addiction. Without God in my life I would have probably given in to the physical inadequacies of my body that causes my breathing problems, the ever constant pain and tried to end it long ago. Know that God is there every moment to help us through our failures gives me the self confidence and courage to overcome all the negative things. The self confidence has given me the courage to overcome the gambling, the porn, the mental and emotional of my past abuses. It helps me each day to overcome the physical issues and everything else that our enemy throws at us. I even have the strength to offer each prayer and writing that I do on this app.

Self discipline = total submission. I’m still only 2/3 there…need to quit smoking and exercise more! Fear keeps me from doing the first!
