I’m currently struggling with an eating disorder…. Mainly calorie restriction. I rarely eat more than 900 calories these days. I’m trying to keep my body healthy but it is so difficult.

I should have added that at the time I made this decision I was diagnosed with diabetes, my blood pressure normally ran around 240-250/140-150 and that was with me maxed out on three different blood pressure medications, I had experienced 4 cardiac incidents with similar symptoms to a heart attack, had 2 TIA level strokes ( with a third having occurred on Easter Sunday of last year. I have also been asthmatic for the entirety of my 67 year old life and diagnosed with COPD approximately 30 years ago. My medication list included 13 different medications and supplements that my doctors prescribed. Now I take one medication for my blood pressure and a potassium supplement for that as well. Also I used to take about 3,000 milligrams of ibuprofen a day to help keep my pain levels at a manageable level and now I have taken about half that in the last year combined.

Some great testimonies. I was borderline obese a few years ago and I’ve taken off over 50 pounds and kept it off due to diet and exercise. It had to be Lifestyle changes not just temporary changes to last. The power of God is what helped me make changes.

I try to stay healthy for my wife, kids, grandkids and my Lord. Part of my daily devotions is not only reading the Bible, but mild exercise and activity. I want to hit 80 in good shape with His help so I can continue to be His disciple and an example to my family and others. But I know I can only do this with God's help. Thank you Jesus!

Right after I turned 30 I made a shocking discovery…I am a juvenile diabetic (type 1). The doctor said I would never have a normal life or do things like regular folks do. BTW that was 49 years ago. I’ll be 80 this Sept. The doc was correct in part. I haven’t done things like others, but I have had a successful career in broadcasting, raised 3kids,completed more than a half dozen 26-mile marathons, water and snow ski w my sweet wife, survived melanoma (25-years), remodeled investment property and now touring this beautiful country driving a 3/4 ton pickup and pulling a 5-ton 5th wheel. OK, I haven’t done it easily checking blood sugar, barely eating, a slave to insulin and exercising anyway and anywhere I can. But I couldn’t do any of this without Jesus. He’s whispering in my ear nonstop. I wish I could say I started out that way, but I’d be lying. I get bored with the diet, often don’t feel like working out, tire of the meds, etc., but love to hear Him w me and knowing my story can inspire others who are out there like me. Took me awhile to learn to hear Him. But now we talk a lot and I thank him daily for the Disease I have and His grace for the strength to live w it.

I have gone too many years, thinking I was invincible. What I put into my body, what I do with my body and how I treat myself. I know that I am not as healthy as I should be, but God will help me.

I have been on a weight loss journey, my wife and have committed to living a healthier life style. As ex student-athletes we both understand the importance of health and wellness and now as parents we realize that our childern are watching us and will repeat the action we do. So I'm hoping the continued process will be a permanent and echo within our children's future.

Good morning gentlemen! Thank you for all of your comments over the years on this app! They have blessed me in so many ways. I agree with Ashley and would have to say that not only is diet and exercise very important, but the need to give up sexual impurities such as porn is vital! I know many of us have struggled with this, and it can become a true addiction as we all know. I am so thankful to God for the character change he has made in me in the last 18 months. I never would have thought it was possible before, but now I am a living testimony, to the faithfulness of our wonderful God and Savior, who is able to do more than we can imagine!

Gents, All of your testimonies, and mine as well, are centered upon that last verse of Exodus. when we don't appreciate and honor the temple/body that has been given us, we suffer. In the secular world the quick and easy appear to be a luxury and benefit, but often harmful in the long run. We always need to be disciplined, need to suffer at times, need to take the rugged trail. Character and maturity are built - and hopefully passed on to our descendants by our actions.

Ooh frickin rah to this! I know my strength and faith do run hand in hand. when my diet gets lazy and it gets filled with sugar like it did in November and December of last year I tend to gain bad weight and I lose some of the power God gifted me. my mind gets cloudy and muddled up. when I am being disciplined in diet and training not only do I feel great; it's almost like it opens the door further for God to fill me up. Being on this earth for our brief time is truly a gift. I must not waste God's gift and take care of it so I can use it to do His will in this life. God bless guys!!

Ive never had an issue with weight, other than I can tell you being “skinny” has its own obstacles. “Chicken legs”, “do you ever eat” comments create self image concerns in much the same way as over weight comments do. They usually would come from someone in the opposite category, and even when meant as complimentary, they stung. I can attest that being skinny, doesn’t equate to healthy. A few times in my life, I would intentionally eat as much as I possibly could, numerous times a day, just the worst stuff you can think of, to see what happened. I’d feel like crap, no energy, need a nap, but no weight gain. Now in my early 40’s, I quit drinking a couple years ago, started working out for the first time since the military 6 months ago, and quit smoking with a few slips about 2 months ago. Getting ready to start eating healthy with my fiancé as we look at options on that. I can attest to the whole center of why I’ve been able to make these changes, surrendering to God meant I began to see myself as God sees me, which means I began to value myself, and my body. I began to feel motivation to take care of this person, and his body. Also, seeking to eliminate porn may be the greatest thing Ive ever done for self esteem and self value. Trying to value myself more, while still slipping with porn, was like trying to warm my home in the winter with front and back doors wide open.

Prayers for you men for working hard. Be steadfast. There are a lot programs and help out there - put aside pride and leverage them. Check with your employer to see what they may currently offer or maybe try with you. They say it’s never one thing, it’s about the right food and exercise. I’ve pretty much eliminated sugar and carbs and committed to exercise X minutes per day or week. To win the battle we need to build/schedule it into our daily plan and we need others to help! I am fortunate in that my company provides a program that offers coaching. After getting over the initial pride thing it has become a blessing. My health is better, I am more active and have had to replace pretty much everything in the closet. Find someone to be accountable to. Find that scale and let someone else know. With prayer and support you can do this! BTW- I am in mid-50s and now am at my lowest weight in 20 years! And I only started my program less than 6 months ago.

I was in the same boat around 2020 weighing the most I ever have. My kids would ask me to play outside with them and I could only go 2-3 minutes without being winded. So I made a change with diet and heavy weight training. Lost close to 50 lbs and feel way better than I have in a very long time. Stick with it and do it for yourself. Everyone else can enjoy the benefits as a bonus. **To Michael if you are in a sedentary job try the 30/60 rule. Every 30 minutes do some sort of light cardio exercise for 60 seconds. Take a minute walk, walk in place, jumping jacks etc. it will help keep your metabolism running throughout the day.

Over the years I had increasing let my illnesses and injuries get the best of me and I slowly put on weight. I also didn’t eat the best choices of food, especially when I started working for a large service company which services many schools, universities, businesses and stadiums to name a few. There always seemed to be an ampule supply of food around even though I worked in an office well away from any of the restaurants of cafeterias that we had. On the day after I retired I stepped on the scales and watched as the meddle on the scale rolled around to show a weight of 310 pounds. I’ve never been a tall person coming in at 5’6” at my tallest but by this time with all knee and back injuries I had shrunk to 5’6”. I was wearing a 58” waisted pant and they were getting tight. On that morning I pledged to myself that some of that weight was coming off. That was on July 6, 2017. Now on January 13, 2023 I can wear a 48” pant and they are a little loose, with very little effort I can get into 46” pants. I’m not sure of my weight because we have not yet found the box that our scale is packed but attime I would estimate that I am in the 230 - 240 pound range. I praise God for helping me make the changes I needed to make and helping me stick with those changes. Right now I pledge to stick with my goal to lose even more weight and even though it has been cold and the weather not so nice I will back to being more active and getting more done around the house even if it all inside work.
13/365: Protecting The Asset
Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body. ~ 1 Corinthians 6: 19-20
God sent himself through His son as a sacrifice to pay the ransom for our lives. He paid the highest price for you. So let's commit to honor God's investment in us.
Treat yourself as a living temple of the Holy Spirit. You are an asset for the kingdom of God. Protect the asset!
