317/365: A Strategy To Handle Your Fears

Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.  ~ John 14:27

The presence of fear is the single most dramatic influence on our daily lives. Fear is clever, like a chameleon, it adapts to the environment and changes to fit the conditions around it.

Fear is a relentless bully which demands a response each and every time it arrives on our doorstep.  If we want to make progress in our faith, we need a plan to address fear when it shows up.

A few tips to build a strategy for handling fear:

  • Ask God to reveal Himself in the situation, for vision to see how He is working in the middle of your hardship.
  • Take a breather and look at every angle. Is the fear being driven by others or yourself? If others, create distance. If it's you, then confess it and be accountable.
  • Change your stance toward the fear.  Look for it's weaknesses instead of allowing it to weaken your confidence. Separate facts from fiction.
  • Be a realist and be smart. Some fears have substantial influence and consequences - it may take time to see the light at the end of the tunnel.
  • Pray. Pray. Pray for the fear itself and whatever/whomever seems to be generating the fear.
