115/365: How To Win The Day

"For the Lord your God is the one who goes with you to fight for you against your enemies to give you victory." ~Deuteronomy 20:4

Just as Moses instructed the Israelites to put away fear and doubt when facing their enemy. Our unchanging and faithful God also goes with us into our fight against the enemy.

God has delivered the final victory for us through Jesus Christ. As for the daily battles, God also gives us His spirit, wisdom, and power to overcome temptation and evil.

My biggest adversary is myself. I hinder myself from being disciplined which causes a lot of issues in my life. Struggling to quit porn, struggling to lose weight, struggling to become a better options trader. It’s all rooted in discipline. If I could go back in time and instill that in myself earlier I would. My adversary would also be myself. I say that I want to be a better person walking after God, but when I go to work it seems as if I'm a different person in front of my co workers saying and acting immature and un christian like. I hate myself after I leave and keep saying I'm gonna do better, but it seems as if I can't overcome this problem. Can anyone give me any ideas on how to change into the person God wants me to be?

Two things that I attribute to my finally overcoming. First I had started basing my morning prayer off of the Lord’s Prayer bug after a while when I got to “The will be done on earth as it is in Heaven”, I started finding myself praying Your will be done in my life as it is in Heaven. Then I started praying that the Lord search every part of me and remove anything and everything that was holding me back. About a month later I was reading in Matthew and the two verses following the Lord’s Prayer hit me hard. The verses were Matthew 6:14-15 which basically tells us to forgive or we won’t be forgiven. Those verses rang out in my mind and then a voice came into my mind and said “this means not only forgiving others that have wronged you but also forgiving yourself of the things that you have done to hurt yourself”.over the years I had taught so many lessons and preached so many sermons about both the Lord’s Prayer as well as forgiveness and had never noticed those two verses. In the last 7 months they have been my focus.

My biggest adversary is me. When I'm not armed for the battle, it's never because God neglected to supply the armor; it's because I didn't put it on. When I rush headlong into harmful situations, it's not because God didn't warn me; it's because I didn't heed His warnings. When I'm dissatisfied with life, it's not because God isn't good; it's because I'm focusing on my circumstances instead of on Christ. Father, please intervene. I give you permission. Please help me get out of my own way. May I no longer have other gods (including myself) in my life. I ask this in the sweet name of Jesus, Amen. God bless, brothers!

@ Vinning... they claim chewing tobacco was more addictive. I had to have a knee replaced you heal better without tobacco the first time I quit for 7 years when I had my first knee surgery. now I quit for my knee replacement it's been 2 years now. I don't know if it would help you but I just looked at all the poison and red all the poisons that it introduces in your body every time you smoke or chew. then I got the worst tasting tobacco I could find. I'm pretty soon I just allowed myself six choose a day three choose a day and that was it I don't even crave it if I'm around a whole bunch of people I kind of crave it.. drinking I've been drinking since has 15 I'm 65 so 50 years Blue Collar logger farmer Rancher so yeah we all drink too much. for my knee replacement also I quit drinking then I started again after it healed but I haven't drank since Christmas of 2022 I think I'm on day 123 or something like that . simply because I want really good health. again I read all the negative that it does to your body for simple 2-hour High.. if you want to make it really simple he just need to want to quit more than you want to smoke or drink I know it sounds stupid but it's really that easy and if you're competitive like me I turned it into a contest. you can do it you can do it if you normally have 15 cigarettes today only allow yourself five today the craving really only lasts about 15 to 20 minutes and then it stops.😉

Tommy, Vinning, good stuff, as always. Thank you all my fellow brothers who spread the good of God here. My fight against Satan and his demons is an hourly effort. I am learning more of what my actual problems are, not to just live in misery and not to know any other possibilities. This true gift of love that God has allowed me through Christ Jesus has been a miracle to say the least. I know who and what I am supposed to be, the choice in my mind to open and accept God's direction and grace comes only with surrender. Humility in all aspects of my life becomes necessary to battle the devil. I need God to help me, I cannot do this by myself, at all, in fact, I would go along with that evil s.o.b. and become a demon. I am grateful that the God of Love, Power, and Mercy cares enough to allow us victory over the gahd of this world.

Because the battle is not over does not mean victory does not exist. Because sinful habits or thoughts are not completely worked out does not mean you do not stand in righteousness right now. All things are worked out for our good and according to the Word God saw these trials well before they came to be. No matter the trial or where you are at right now the answer is the same, absolute surrender with love. Caste your cares, worries, and defects upon the Lord and take up the cross today. There are other brothers and sisters living in deeper levels of darkness that you are making your way out of. I can testify my battles my battles with lust, porn, masterbation, etc finally turned victorious when I truly sought him throughout the day and kept my mind on heavenly things. Prayers to all you Brothers.

I started the battle against pornography and lust 8 years ago. Before that I always struggled with it but I wouldn’t call it much of a battle as I only would have as much “victory” as Satan would let me have. Over the last 8 years I have had victory over porn and masturbation but I still had to fight so hard against looking at women with lust and I was never fully transparent with my wife on that. I also would never let my wife talk to me about the hurts that were caused. I just wanted to leave it all in the past and forget that any of it ever happened. Recently I discovered that the only way to achieve true victory, healing and intimacy is through complete honesty, openness and transparency. As I have started this it has reopened a lot of the wounds that were created but this time they are actually healing instead of just being covered up and I am starting to see what real intimacy is. Before this I was at a place where I just thought I was going to have to live out this miserable life the way it was and do the best I could but I now have real hope that my marriage, my wife and I will have true healing. Thank you God for answering prayer

Gentlemen, I have also struggled with porn and lust and it affected me to the point that I also had an affair 2 years ago. That affair was when I hit rock bottom, and since then, God‘s blessings have been abundant in my life. I have been free from pornography for over two years. My marriage has been shaken to the core and I know that the hurts I’ve caused are still present, but in someways, we are communicating better than we have in our entire 21 year marriage. I have realized the need to turn whole heartedly to God, and ask Him to be foremost in every small area of my life. I pray for continued spiritual renewal, forgiveness, and blessings in my marriage. God IS FAITHFUL! Amen

My biggest adversary is always the enemy in my head, and in the head of others. One of the biggest truths God has revealed to me in this journey has been identifying the liar in myself, and in those around me. Getting to a place of clarity that we all only have one true enemy, has helped me to see all those around me as Gods children regardless of where they are in their own journey. Whether the guy that takes the time to help me in a difficult situation, or the guy that cuts me off and shows me his finger, God loves them the same, and expects me to. I have been both of those guys myself, after all, and God is as much for me as any saint out there. What’s the difference between these two guys? Who is pulling their levers, which voice are they listening to? We ALL have the same common enemy, and the devil is our ONLY true enemy. The good news is that God is infinitely more powerful, and not only will help us defeat the enemy daily, but He wants to! All we must do is ask, and stay focused on His truth. God, help me to stay focused on your love and truth today. Help me to stay vigilant in seeking those who I can show your love and Grace to today, amen 🙏🏻

I am my biggest enemy. Always have and always will be. Wrapped inside of that are character defects. Sometimes one type has the showcase. Currently that incessant procrastination one has been really peeking into the room going HELLO I want to play. So God can you come remove those character defects today and especially that procrastination guy. He’s really annoying and he likes to wait until the last minute so it’s as stressful as possible then play hero when he beats the deadline…. even though the deadlines should have been beat much sooner. I guess it’s a little hero complex plus procrastination I need an assist on God. I’ll always need your help everyday with those things Lord. So please come into my heart today and switch me on so I get to it. I love you God amen 🙏

Amen Tommy. We each have our battles. My marriage is mine. I spent years - most of 30 - enjoying eye candy too much and lying about it. I am fighting against all that my sin created and did to my wife and my family. Every now and then I get a glimpse of victory. 2 steps forward, 3 steps back. I don’t do what I did . I try to be honest in all things. I want victory.

Yeah that’s awesome Tommy! I have several battles that I am fighting…well a guess you have to be actually making progress to call it a fight…smoking…never really tried to quit…sobriety was hard enough without stopping I told myself and still telling myself 15 yrs later. Know I need to quit but refuse to try! The other is busyness…I do make progress on that front from time to time…have never been very good at sitting still and just being ok with myself!

I overcame the biggest adversary that I ever had once an for all back in October 2022. That was my 50 year battle against pornography, lust and masturbation. I am still picking up the pieces of a nearly shattered 27 year marriage. With the Lord’s help it is coming back together. We are talking more, she is letting me touch her and on both Saturday and Sunday mornings as she was about to leave to go help a friend at a craft show she initiated kiss for the first time in years. I can know see hope that the full victory is on the horizon.
