66/365: Crushing Your Financial Stress

Whoever loves money never has enough; whoever loves wealth is never satisfied with their income. This too is meaningless. ~ Ecclesiastes 5:10

When our lust for money outgrows our love for Christ, the problem isn't the money... it's the man holding it.

Crush that financial stress - give God your heart and he'll take care of your wallet.

Listen to this - God doesn't promise wealth, but He does help us see the wealth in what He's provided us at this moment.

There are two things you can do to stay focused on the right prize:

Fasting: Give up the pursuit of one non-essential thing that money buys you. Pray for God to reveal it and guide you in the fast.
Giving: Turn the money saved from fasting that "thing" into a blessing for someone in need. Ask God to direct you toward the right place to give.

GO DEEPER: (Do steps 1 and 2 above. Trust me - it will change things)

Perhaps I've failed because I've let us get so far into debt it feels like there's no way out. I don't buy much for me and I felt guilty spending my birthday money on stuff for me instead of getting our debt paid down. I can't even think of anything to fast for myself; about the only thing I can think of is not upgrading my cellphone. I haven't been the best at maintaining my relationship with God.

Money is something I have to be very careful with. Just like anything that can be wielded as a tool of power of men. At least in the society we have this is the case. I know the only thing that will make me feel truly rich is the richness of love felt from God. Having more than enough money when money is the only goal has left me feeling very empty in the past. Just like any other addictive man made thing. It is not supposed to go in my heart. Only God can fill that God sized hole. I must focus on what can I do in my life to serve Him not man's God of money. May you guide my heart God so that I keep you at the forefront and my wealth building strategies in line with your principles so that any wealth I build is used to serve your kingdom not mine. I need you God and I need your constant guidance. I love you and amen 🙏

This is a good reminder for me. I grew up in a poor and dysfunctional family. I’m doing ok now. Far from rich but I have been blessed greatly in many ways. I have to continue to allow God to control my finances. It’s His to begin with.

I am grateful for my ability to make money and help people while I do it. My talents and skills are gifts that God has blessed me with. I am happy to have the crummy little house and no car yet. We eat good. God does always provide. My perspective of my position is paramount to my serenity, and my expectations are purposely in proportion to my ambitions. When I wanted or needed a drink, I always found a way. The waste that I wasted on my own selfish ways can go to better places now that God leads my way. There can be paid all bills and enough to give. I love God and all His creation. The birds have, and so do I. Praise God.

I just gave my church half the money I had. I didn't have need for anything else. I wanted to give. i trust.They can put it to better yse than me. I made to simple and just gave it anonymously.

I have tied up a lot of my identity as a "good husband" and "good father" in my ability to provide financially for my family. I've questioned this for a long time and have been praying more and more about why that is, and I think it's because I grew up watching my family struggling financially as my father dealt with a lot of his own demons, including infidelity, alcoholism, anger, and violence. I've come to realize that I've been conflating the two things, and that just isn't so. The rain falls on the good and on the bad alike. I should do my best to be faithful to God with what he's given me: a wife to cherish, children to train up as followers of Christ, a family to love and protect and to mirror Christ's love for, and gainful employment to work my best at. Not to live fearfully about employment. Not to live pridefully comparing myself to others as though my earnings had anything to do with how I'm doing as a husband or father. What a wretched man I am. Who will save me from this body of sin and death? Paul's words really hit home this morning as I realize what a long, long way I have to go to be like Jesus. But, praise God that he is doing a work in me, and that he is faithful to complete it. Even a sinful man like me.

The last few years had been a season of getting small for my family. It’s been a season of battling my pride and ego, and learning what is important, and what never was. It’s been turning to God rather than my own power to provide, as my efforts have been repeatedly fruitless in a business that I once could not fail it seemed. It has been an opportunity for me to learn just how much of a solution God is to truly any problem, especially finances. I can’t count how many times at the last moment money showed up to cover essentials. Random check in the mail, money left on our counter top, new cash client out of thin air, and even finding an old commission check in a pile of Christmas cards I was cleaning out from when I was in treatment 3 years ago. God, is always on time. Always, according to His will. I really wasn’t in the mood to share today as yesterday was a series of similar fails, but reading comments, praying, God gave me the energy and gratitude to share how He has been there for my family so very many times. I know there are countless families struggling financially out there right now, and as sad as it seems on the surface, it also means there are countless families about to discover the source of true comfort and provisions from their Creator. Praying for us all in these tough times, Amen 🙏🏻

read the book a blessed life it'll blow your mind the people couldn't give their money away it's crazy if it's true. also and not bragging but we need to think good of ourselves on the things we do. so after many years I quit drinking and I do take that money and I buy breakfast on Sundays for some kids in another country long story but yeah that's cool to decide to do something and then to see that it's a suggestion we don't give ourselves praise nearly enough we need to work on our areas The Lift us up and make a spread her people people I hope everybody has a good Lent God bless

"for whosoever hath, to him shall be given, and he shall have more abundance: but whosoever hath not, from him shall be taken away even that he hath" Matthew 13:12. I am this season right now and God is telling me if I have not managed well what I have I will not be promoted. Even in the face of the storm my heart is set on him, because my heart is set on him my finances are his. What "could go wrong" does not exist because my God is right and faithful. That allows my mind to be focused in a storm. God help brothers and sisters going thru it right now, let them not lose heart but grow in faith.

I feel that pain Tommy, I’ll be praying for your provision! Last 21 years we’ve been a school teacher, single income family so you can just about imagine finances have always been tight but no matter the need, God always seems to provide. Many times we were facing insurmountable circumstances but managed every time, usually escaping just in the nick of time! Never much left over to help others so we help in different ways! We’ve learned to be happy with what we have!! And I thank Jesus for His continued faithfulness!!

Right now our family is in a very dark place financially. With Sheila on disability as bd myself on retirement with only social security it is tight but we can make as long as JJ (the name out daughter is using since coming out as transsexual) is working and helping out some. However since she has been out of work for the 18 months or so things have gotten ever tighter. Now one of the debtors he had sold his debt and the current holder of the debt has filed suit against him and so now we are trying to figure out what we can do to resolve this.
