61/365: Breaking Free From Lust

A life of purity must come with a desire to hate what is evil. However, be careful not to hate yourself if you fall prey to the temptation of lust. That is a trap - you are NOT evil!

When our heart changes, it motivates our behavior to turn away from what is evil and leave it behind. This is why an active, aggressive faith life is critical.

I am trying so hard to regain my faith and this area is one I am finding so difficult. When I met my wife a few years back she reintroduced me to faith and family and I’m so so blessed for that. Porn is and lust are demons that continue to show up and bite at me, does anyone have any tips to overcome this crutch that weighs me down…. Please help

I grew up with a mean family and people I knew. I have always been told to love thy enemies, but due to certain people, it is very hard. I'm a loving Christian and do all kinds of things to help and show it. Yes, I do know about the different things that we shouldn't do. But ever since my wife died, I bought a few porn toys instead of trying to find another companionship.

I agree this is a topic that needs more attention especially in churches. It gets avoided because people feel uncomfortable with it. I used to use porn a number of years ago. Thankfully I have broken free from looking at that but I still have problems with lust. When I see a woman that looks good to me my mind seems to go to what I’d like to do with her. I know this is wrong but it’s a habit I picked up while using porn and it keeps hanging around. I know I need to change this. I keep praying God will take it but it seems to come back even when I don’t want it to.

This topic is a though one, I have been driven by selfish lusts all my life. My transformation into the man that God has planned for me has saved my soul. The new man that walks with Jesus and wants to spread goodwill to this evil world. God is good, men. Give it to God.

Gentlemen-EVERY MAN NEEDS THIS TRAINING. It is called clean class, and it provides the tools to rid yourself of lust and pornography. I was addicted for 12 years and it ruined relationships and my relationship with Jesus. Praise God I am restored now only by His grace, but Him putting this training in my life did the final works. I have dozens of other men at our church who have been clean for YEARS, some a decade, all thanks to this training. I am a sex addict. This is an illness. Only GOD CAN HELP. This had been something of severe shame and guilt. This has progressed into very sick thoughts and behaviors. It ultimately causes me pain, hurts others as it affects my relationships with my wife and most women who I sexualize in my mind constantly. God is the only thing that can clean this from my life... My motives have always been selfish, and I've hidden my addiction and caused embarrassment and shame to myself. Unhealthy. Crude and disrespectful. Damages my ambitions and decetefully corrodes my life. Used to be my favorite thing! to do in the world was smoke crack and violate myself with porn, toys and cameras. It does get worse. The fantasy and escape from reality. The hiding. God did not intend my sexuality to be nasty and dirty and shameful. God has forgiven me, but I must repent! This powerful addiction can only be arrested with God's help. There is hope, there is a way. THANK you father God for taking this away from me, let me help others through my experiences. Thank you Jesus for showing me the path to righteousness. Praise God !

Thank you Jesus, Elliott needs help here. My last Marriage was started by lust, and it ended with me asking myself why. I know better, but when you walk by sight and not by faith hearts will be broken. I Would always use females for my EGO and my PRIDE. I didn't care on how much I affected them or there family's. Elliott gets what Elliott wants, that was my old way of thinking. Addiction caused me to only worry about me and MY needs. Jesus is changing that Elliott to a Elliott that cares for others, but first I need to love me today and persevere.

I have been consumed by this spirit from 2nd grade and I can't say battle because I willfully gave in. Only until last May did I start battling after 25years. I would think I'd always watch porn, I loved it and had no desires to change. I completely identify with Brother Tommy's walk where I could no longer healthy look upon a woman, I'd want her, Id fantasize sick fantasies. I grew up in a Godless home so I disregarded any convictions of guilt until I felt no more guilt. I saw no reason for change, until I God brought my wife and kids into my life. But even then I still gave in. It was not until a medical condition right after I got COVID, they found a growth on my lung. Immediately the fear of God came upon me, and that was truly the first real step towards God I made. Tearfully and fully submitted I finally was willing to surrender and asked God of this mountain of iniquity and sin I've made, what is the thing I need to work on most... Lust and Pornography needed to leave me. But in my case I was not restored miraculously and fully delivered. God revealed a transformation needed to take place and I could not get there if he made it easy. He said he will not allow a temptation I could not overcome, and I have to say his promise is unbreakable. Though I am not completely delivered I have much more clarity and freedom, sinful lustful thoughts don't have a stronghold it once was. God is Good brothers.

Thank you Bob and to all of you that were bold enough to get vulnerable. I grew up without a father and I've always sought real men to teach me and mentor me however as I continue to mature In Christ I see more and more that real biblical Godly men are hard to find, Godly men not perfect men. It saddens me as I look around and ask myself, where are the men? Look at the number of boys that don't have a father in their life, women working two jobs because they fell for a sperm donor and must do everything themselves. Inner-city men are locked up or in gangs I go to church and it's 20 women to one man. The women are preaching and teaching and thank God they are because men seem to be too busy watching the Superbowl. I believe one man changed the world and I challenge myself as I challenge you......BECOME THAT MAN! Wow! The power of God and his messages are always amazing! This hits home on so many levels today as I have struggled with and addiction to porn for a long time. Lord, I ask that you put your healing hands upon those, including myself, who are struggling with lust. Guide us and help all to look up to you when the temptation hits.

This topic is spot on today. Something I’ve recently been open with my wife and counselor about. I’ve tried to hide this sun inside me for years and it’s been heavier at different times. But, being open and communicating that it’s a sin I’ve struggled with had brought a sense of weight lifted off me. I’m still in the battlefield, but knowing I’m not alone and that Christ always provides away out gives me hope and purpose to resist the evil one. Last week in counseling I finally admitted to my own battles with porn and my issues with lust. Just knowing that someone else knows and will be holding me accountable has given me a new strength this past week. As I have seen women or started to see things on social media that aroused me, I have been able to quickly divert and dwell and I have been able to pray in the moment. Even now as I sit here knowing men will see this comment and my inner thoughts are now not inner and are exposed helps me have the strength to overcome. It’s only been a week but I am thankful that this day, lust is not winning the battle for my mind.

I agree with many here that this is a topic that Christian men need to talk about, be open with each other about, and guard against the temptation of lust with accountability, companionship, and prayer! For most of my 20 year marriage, I was a victim of pornography and it led me to a short emotional affair with a married woman. That was over two years ago, and the discovery of the affair by my wife has changed my life! It has been the worst experience of my life, but God has used it to turn my life around, and I have not looked at pornography for two years. The temptation of lust is still there, and I must stay vigilant as the devil will try so many things. However, God always provides a way out of temptation! I pray that I will always seek that way out and focus on him in all things. Praise God for his love, forgiveness, and grace through the death of Jesus Christ on the cross!

To Joseph C I'm so glad you brought this up. everyone crawls under a rock. and maybe it's just me I mean we can joke about things even though it's a sin we can make talk about it and not make you feel like we're going to burn in hell the rest of our lives, lord said we all sin and we all fall short of the glory of God and it's tough. maybe not for others but for me I have loved and adored women since second grade. I don't go out and try to bed every single woman but I love women, the different way they think an I like their Sports and I like the things that they achieve and their personality but what that does is brings me in front of and around a lot of women and that is the one sin commandment that is so tough I can literally read the Bible and be thinking Mary Magdalene man I bet you she was pretty! I think some of it's a natural desire but yeah it's tough. that being said I have never cheated on a girlfriend I have never dated a married woman. but if they're single and I am attracted to her man that's a tough one. it's tough for me because I don't look at them in a disrespectful way I've raised a daughter and I don't want men looking at her disrespectful but I just absolutely adore ladies and if they're attractive I'm going to want in their pants if they're my girlfriend. so yes it's hard. well for me anyway maybe I just have a high natural testosterone Drive level who knows but we should be able to talk about it. Im working on it!! lol

Good morning men and women of God, I am so glad to see this topic discussed. For whatever reason it seems to be avoided in many churches these days. When I was a new believer I asked fellow men if they struggled and if our men's ministry ever addressed the issue and I was told no one there struggled with such issues and it wasn't discussed. Which only further deeped my feelings of shame. God has since opened my eyes and brought others into my life that are bold enough to share their struggles. God has delivered me from a porn addiction and many other addictions.i however must always vigilante as to what I allow my eyes to rest upon it only takes a brief second for my mind to race and I must bring every thought into captivity. I don't hate the person who may be caught up in evil things, lustful things. They're lost. I was lost too at one point and I had enough hate in my heart for myself during that time for the whole world to hate me. I wasn't saved through hate I was saved through love, compassion, and empathy. I do hate the evil things of this world of which their are many. I wish they didn't exist but who would we be without opposing forces. What victory would be had without the battle. I pray that I may be a self less conduit and example of how a man can be completely lost with sex and alcohol on the highest pedestal. Life gone completely upside down with worldly obsession and possession of things, and utter despair and depression. To show the power of Christ turning all of that completely around and igniting a rocket ship towards the heavens in my soul for God. That when people who haven't seen me in years go wow what's different in your life now, and I tell them candidly about God's intervention to save me. How that morphed me from selfish in nearly every way to someone who loves to help others instead. So that maybe just maybe they revoke evil themselves and join us brothers and sister in Christ on our journey towards God day in and day out through eternity. The surrendered, the meek indeed do inherit the earth, because we gave everything over to God's will. I love you God amen 🙏

The devil causes the temptations, and it’s easy to fall to the temptation, but don’t think it’s all over if we fall. To fall is human, but it also human to pick yourself up, ask forgiveness and move on. You’ve got to forgive yourself as you forgive others. Think about what caused the fall, confess to a brother, and ask them to keep you accountable. Love you Jesus! 🧡💜💙💛

Self will run riot, this is the center of what we struggle with. Our problems are not that we crave food, sex, comforts that money brings. Or problems come when we allow those natural cravings to rule our lives, like an engine that runs away (continues to increase rpm’s with no way of stopping it). God, is the only thing that can intercede before we self destruct. Science has proven that Alcohol and drugs have an interesting relationship with our brains, that once we’ve used them as a crutch to reality long enough, a switch flips that can not be unflipped. We will have developed an allergy at that point, that renders us powerless after the first drink, to stop drinking… Like that run away engine. I believe it’s the same with sex and food. Once we start down that path, it’s extremely difficult (impossible for some) to turn back, without the power that comes from surrendering to living Gods will for our lives. The longer and more thorough we become with our morning routines, the further and further we will travel away from even the thought of such things. God, may your will be done today, not mine, amen 🙏🏻

I am so glad that I have finally overcome lust and porn in my life. As many know my battle started early thanks to a “friend” of mine digging into his father’s stash of magazines at s time when I was questioning my sexuality thanks to two of my brothers sexually molesting me. Viewing these magazines sparked an addiction to porn but also to one of lust. It didn’t help that my friends sister had a tendency to like to wrestle with so I got to touch her often until her mom put a stop to it which caused me to lust after ways to touch her once again. I took me over 50 years to break the cycle of lusting after just about every female and even some men I looked at as nothing more than s sex object no matter what age. I never acted on to many accept to make up stories of our encounters in my head. Now thanks to the grace of God and asking Him each day to let His will be done in my life and finally totally surrendering to Him.
