Matthew 7:1-5 NKJV ¹"Judge not, that you be not judged. ²For with what judgment you judge, you will be judged; and with the measure you use, it will be measured back to you. ³And why do you look at the speck in your brother's eye, but do not consider the plank in your own eye? ⁴Or how can you say to your brother, 'Let me remove the speck from your eye'; and look, a plank is in your own eye? ⁵Hypocrite! First remove the plank from your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother's eye.
How can it be better said? Happy Father's day to you all. Biological and spiritual alike. And thank you Lord for cleaning my lens in this moment. Happy Father's do to you my Holy Father above!

When I woke up this morning and read this I felt like I had something to say about it, but I couldn't put it into words so I just put my phone away and started getting ready for church.
I was scheduled to be on the church band this morning at 7:30, and I was stressing out because it was 7:10 and I hadn't eaten breakfast yet. I had to decide what was important for me to do before I left, and what wasn't. And so I ended up leaving the house with my nails unclipped and my hair in a big mess because I couldn't prioritize those things. I had also not had time to read my other devotional or spend time with God.
it was only when I opened the door to my car that I realized I was scheduled to be at the church at 7:45, not 7:30. Suddenly all of my priorities shifted, I went back inside, clipped my nails, fixed my hair and had a little session of prayer before leaving at the correct time.
The lens I was saying the world through this morning was that I had to be somewhere at 7:30, and that changed all of my priorities. I wonder now, had I put my prayer time first if I might have realized during it what time I was supposed to be at church, and managed to get all my things prepared without having to stress about the time.
The lens we see through can be big things like your raise your culture your background, etc. But it can sometimes change moment by moment.
So today, when circumstances try to change your view of the world be careful not to let them change the lens you see through.

We watched the 2005 movie “Crash” last night. It is an excellent film that showcases the human flaw that resides in ALL of us. It reminds us that our natural survival instinct is to size up others around us, form judgements, and make assumptions. It shows how in any given situation, regardless of our backgrounds and skin color, we default to judging others around us based on our assumptions of theirs. We are called to be better than “default”. Our character defects are simply survival traits that we’ve allowed to take control of us and run the show. If we are not painstaking about being honest with ourselves in what all ways we are allowing them to motivate us rather than our love and Gods direction motivating us, we will push others away and further from us, but more importantly as Christian’s, further from God. We, MUST be willing to see only the heart of the person in front of us, lest we fail God. God, help me today to see only the broken hearts of those whom I come in contact with today and every day, as you do. Amen 🙏🏻

As a chaplain at a prison I have to pray regularly that God keeps my lens clean so I can effectively witness to the men there. If my heart gets jaded, I’ll fail to accomplish the mission God sent me there for.
170/365: Keep Your Lens Clean
The eye is the lamp of the body. If your eyes are healthy, your whole body will be full of light. ~ Mathew 6:22
What you let in through your lens will shape your view of God's creation.
Make certain you spend time getting to know the heart of God. Use the lens of Christ so you can see others the way He sees them - and see the world as an amazing place built for all of us.
Jesus Christ is the savior of all people - no matter the background, shape, size, color, language, status, nationality, culture, etc.
Keep your lens clean... let in the good light - filter out the bad light.
GO DEEPER: James 2: 8-9
Next Step: Strongly held opinions are a reflection of how we see the world - take a few minutes to reflect.
