The toughest principle for me is taking all the “masks” I wear and being my authentic self. Embracing and not pouring shame / guilt on my short comings and lifting those up to God. I find myself twisting the truth in order to be perceived a certain way (trying to CONTROL how others see me).

Oh man this is just what I needed to read. Fell back into my fleshly desires. Repented and more focus then before. This scripture put more boost on my calling ❤️❤️❤️❤️

James 1:23-24, ²³anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is more like someone who looks at his face in the mirror ²⁴ and after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like.

Some great comments. I find when I stand in my identity that God has given me as His son through Jesus I’m much happier and a lot nicer. When I get off focus I get angry easily.

I want to be God's temple. I've never thought that I could be one to spread the good news. I believe that I am showing the world God's love through my actions. Though I fall short often, I continue on a path of growth and learning. God is with us, in us at all times. We have to know this and use this to do our ministering to those in need. With God's love at our conscious forefront, we can be the salt of the earth.

The four principles that were mentioned in today devolution are the key factors of being a Christian. Be yourself, don’t lie, build everyone that comes through your life up and serve everyone we meet in some way. We can not live one way at home and another way when we are out in public or with friends. There are those that go to church on Sunday praising and worshipping God but then when they are with friends or co-workers join in telling off color jokes they have lost their savor. A person that you can not believe anything he says because he has been caught in so many lies or half truths has lost his savor. When you are constantly mean or hateful to others whither you know that person or not as lost their savor. A person that becomes selfish, refusing to help their person in anyway they can as lost their savor. It is not real hard to always be the same person because we can not serve God at one moment and Satan in another. All that telling lies does is get us caught up in a trap and the more we lie the harder it is to get untrapped and people soon lose all faith in what we say. As Christians we should never tear anybody down but instead we should desire to build them up. We as Christians are called to serve just as Jesus served look around today and see who you can serve even if it is with a smile and the three words “Jesus loves you.”

Verse 16 says, Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven. …. We are ambassadors for Christ. Let’s point to Him.

You make some good points Timothy! I believe the author is advising us to be authentic, and being ourselves is part of being authentic that sense. Too many Christians trying to measure up to God's standard, put on appearances, and attempt to be seen as the perfect follower. All of us men know we fall short. So why keep that a secret? In fact, my flaws may be the very thing that magnifies Christ in me. When I do well. it is His power coming through my life, in spite of my deficiencies. I can own those flaws and shortcomings, because they magnify my Lord and his strength in my life. I think that maybe the intent of the author. I also think about Peter, who remained spontaneous and maybe even impetuous, even after surrendering to Christ. perhaps it was being himself, with his bold and sometimes unthinking actions that led him to walk on the water after Jesus! In that way, being ourselves means being the men God created us to be. he enabled Peter to reachannel his boldness in positive ways. We don't dispose of our personalities, rather the Lord sanctifies them.

I think to myself while reading this about these being some pretty simple principles to live all moments with. Not necessarily easy principles because it does require ownership of actions when things go awry. Not deflection not redirecting to someone else's fault. Just a simple what is my role here in this success or failure. And failures are just opportunities to grow and fail forward. I must be an open book for others so they may see God's work in my life. The way He took my beat up sail boat and repaired it completely so that I could sail once more searching for opportunities to help others lost and broken down at sea. Thank you God for today and the moment. I will work to follow these principles. Guide me God in following them and keep them at the forefront of my thoughts and actions. I love you God amen 🙏

Be a good Christian, let the light of Jesus shine through you to this dark world. Bring a little light into someone’s world. We represent Christ, be a good representative. Love you Jesus! 🤎💜🧡💙

To me, being salty means being authentic and transparent in the company of others. If we do this, Jesus will reveal how we are no longer conforming to the “normal” around us. This looks like being willing to share openly about our mistakes and failures in order to be relatable to those who need uplifting, and that isn’t normal. It looks like choosing to be selfless, deflecting credit and glory toward God when aimed at us. Basically, it looks like bringing our best friend Jesus to the party, conversation, situation with us no matter where we go. And when the opportunity arises to deny Him, or that we know Him, or that we now follow Him, being courageous enough to not stray from His teachings. That’s pretty salty. That turns heads, changes minds, and leaves people considering whether they want what we have found. Maybe I do like broccoli, with some of this salt on it 😁🙏🏻

One of my biggest mistakes in life was trying to be all things to all people, following the ways of the world instead of the ways of God. For many years I was spiritually bland - no salt. Many years later and, fortunately, without doing any irreparable harm I'm walking a straighter path (difficult, still a work in progress) with Him by my side.

"Be holy as I am holy" 1 Peter 1:16, Lev 11:44 It can be a dangerous thing to tell people to "be themselves". If we want to "be salty" or "be authentic" we have got to spend time with the Author and Perfecter of our faith and grow in Christ likeness. It is also necessary to be sanctified in the truth, His Word is truth. This is what the Bible says. It never says to "be ourselves" but to be born again, and also to confirm our calling. Not trying to upset anyone, I love the daily devos and share them often! I appreciate all the hard work put into this ministry! May God continue to strengthen and guide us all in His work according to His will, good purpose and plan! God bless!!

65/365: Stay Salty My Friends
"You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot." ~ Matthew 5:13
Living for God doesn't always look like gold or smell like roses. It takes courage, grit, determination, and character.
A man of faith makes his family better, friendships are better, and the people we touch should instantly taste that we've been with Jesus.
Do you want to be that man? Get salty.
To be the salt Jesus is talking about in Matthew 5, try this:
- Be authentic - be yourself
- Speak truth - don't lie or twist the facts
- Speak life - build up people, don't tear them down
- Serve someone every day in some way
GO DEEPER: Leviticus 2: 1-3,13
NEXT STEP: When others want to know why you do what you do... tell them about God's grace. Give them the salt.
