Seek And You Will Find

God revealed himself to us through his Word, the living Jesus Christ.  God's ultimate expression of himself was sent through His son to shed light on the power of His Word.

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it. ~ John 1: 1-5

Jesus walked among us and taught us. We find the value Christ places on scripture in Matthew as he responds to the religious elite - they were trying to trap him.

Jesus replied, “You are in error because you do not know the Scriptures or the power of God.
~ Matthew 22:29

Jesus took it a step further to help us understand the power of God's breathed and inspired word in the Old Testament:

Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. For truly I tell you, until heaven and earth disappear, not the smallest letter, not the least stroke of a pen, will by any means disappear from the Law until everything is accomplished.
~ Matthew 5: 7-18

As Jesus taught and revealed God, He demonstrated the importance of relying on Scripture with each temptation in the wilderness.

In fact, Jesus Christ is the New Testament!

We learn how to live as Christians from the written accounts of His teaching.  We find encouragement through the inspired word of the Apostles and writers.

Let the message of Christ dwell among you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom through psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit, singing to God with gratitude in your hearts.

~ Colossians 3:16

We leverage the Old Testament to help navigate our life, understand God, and know our heritage as children of God.

We leverage the New Testatment to help solidify our walk of faith in the new covenant of Christ. Both are powerful. Just as we learn from Timothy:

All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.
~ 2 Timothy 3: 16-17

The bottom line... we study to learn how to apply our faith. The first step comes through the living Word of Christ, as Jesus says in John.

You study the Scriptures diligently because you think that in them you have eternal life. These are the very Scriptures that testify about me, yet you refuse to come to me to have life. ~ John 5: 39-40

Living as a Christian begins with accepting Christ into your life. It continues as we learn more about our faith, our story, and our mission as followers of Jesus.

The Challenge:  Confess your faith, and study for application. Have you given your heart to Christ? To allow Him to be in first place? If so, share it with us.
