The Power of Giving

We get one trip on this journey called life. Regardless of how you arrived at this point - with us here on the app - you are here. It requires effort to keep showing up. Thank you!

You know the power of love, you crave peace, and you know there is more than just waking up and going to sleep each day.

I want you to hear that God loves you so much that He sent His only son, Jesus Christ - your messiah, to be the sacrifice for anything you've done (or will do).

God did this to give you life right now! And Give you life eternally.

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. - John 3:16

What is your response to this gift?

What will you do with it?

The template of life is sacrificial love. God showed us how much He loved us - and it came through a sacrifice at the highest level.

Jesus said, "Whoever does not take up their cross and follow me is not worthy of me. Whoever finds their life will lose it, and whoever loses their life for my sake will find it. - Matthew 10:38-39

Is Jesus asking us to suffer and die in the same way he suffered and died?  No. Not at all.

However, our Lord is asking us to learn about our crosses, our burdens, our gifts - so we can pick them up and carry them into our lives - and the lives of those around us.

Jesus is asking us to look beyond the mirror and our problems. He's asking us to use our life as a gift for others who have yet to find the love, hope, and joy of Christ.

If we focus only on ourselves, then we've missed the gift of living.

My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends. - John 15:12-13

The love we have for others is often reflected in the sacrifices we make for them. The life you've been given is a gift. How you live is how you love.

Your sacrifice is not on the cross - that was Jesus' job. But your sacrifice comes in other areas of your life. Your time, your presence, your gifts, and your attention.

KEY VERSE:  "Be devoted to one another in love. Honor one another above yourselves."
~ Romans 12:10

CHALLENGE:  This month, as we contemplate the greatest sacrifice of all - made by Jesus Christ for our sake - let's think about how our sacrifices can change the lives of others.

Use your crosses (time, presence, talents, gifts) to point others to the cross of Christ.

  • How much of your time will you sacrifice this month to help somone else with small or large tasks?
  • Commit to being present for someone this month. Sacrifice your craving to be served and focus on how you can serve someone else.
  • What small gift can you sacrifice in order that someone else is served?

Feel free to share your sacrifices in the comments. Let's celebrate!

Share the difficulties you may face in giving up your wants to serve someone else's needs.
